Pearl Izumi Women's Superstar Knicker Closeout

WOW! I wore these on a 4 day loaded tour recently and they really are superstars. It rained 2 of the 4 days but I felt comfortable with just these knickers and a pair of wool knee socks. I didn't even know they were wet until we took a bathroom break - they keep you warm when damp. Also, the low-riding flat waist seam is flattering.

I own numerous pair of Pearl Izumi Select level shorts and have had no problem with the chamois pad. I assumed that these knickers would have an identical chamois pad. However, this doesn't seem to be the case. The knickers' pad is a bit narrower and uncomfortably thicker right in the center of the pad than the other PI chamoix of the same level. I can only wear these for rides of 25 miles or less, at which point chafing and atypical pressure points cut my ride short. Additionally, there is little to no compression through the glutes and quads.

On a more positive note, the leg openings are stylish and comfortable, as advertised. They are moderately warm, I wear them in 50-60 degree weather in Portland, OR.

Oh, one last thing, be prepared for a lower-rise fit. Wide waistband does not always have to mean low-rise, but in this case, it does.
