I had these shorts on my dreamwishlist for several years. This past March, I finally took the plunge and plunked down the $340 or so, thinking these would be by far my best shorts ever. Im extremely disappointed to say that not only are they not worth $340, they are actually not worth $100. I have shorts from Descente, PI, LG, and Castelli, all for less than half the price that I would rate higher than these Assos. Its not that the Assos lack any good qualities, but they have two major design flaws.
These shorts should be called the Assos Wedgie. Thats the only way to describe them. Ive tried them in 2 different sizes, and the chamois is of such poor design floppy fabric in the middle, that it is impossible not to end up with a wedgie, especially when standing. Then you spend several awkward seconds trying to pull it back out so that you can sit back down on your saddle. It happens over and over again. I thought at first that with a smaller size, perhaps the problem would go away, because the fabric would be pulled tighter, but I was wrong -- the smalls have the same problem on me as the mediums did. What a real disappointment.
The other major flaw is the stitching of the panels. Instead of a modern, flatlock-type design, they use a traditional stitching type approach, which leaves a sharp seam on the inside of the shorts. After several hours in the shorts, it felt like I had actually been scraped. When I took off the shorts, I saw it was because the stitching had rubbed the front of my leg raw.
Ill be sending mine back, either to the store or to the manufacturer for a refund. For this type of money, youd think Assos would offer a superior product. These shorts are not even acceptable.
